This sermon – But As For You – Man of God – was originally preached 2012.12.09 by Sonny Yoder.
Passages used: 2 Timothy 3.
In these last days there will be difficult times, because people are sinful. We as Christians need to live very differently than the prevailing culture that we live in.
God is speaking to us and wants us to be men and women of God who are equipped to face the challenges of life.
Take courage: Paul and Timothy were men with issues… but never the less they were men of God. God wants to do the same for us, no matter what kinds of issues we have.
Paul gives characteristics of people in the last days. Misdirected love seems to be an ongoing theme throughout this group of people. We must be lovers of God and the things of God.
May God help us to not be an empty shell without the power of the Spirit of God. If we have left our first love, we can, and must return to God in repentance and seek God’s forgiveness and His regenerating power.
All of Timothy’s upbringing was rooted in the Scripture. Paul here tells Timothy to remember the power of the scripture and what it is and can do.
Some questions we can ask ourselves.
- Do we love God most of all?
- Is God our first love?
- Do we love self (the essence of sin)?
- Do we put our business or money ahead of God?
- Do you love pleasure more than God?
When we love God the most, other things come into proper perspective and priority.
The Holy Scripture are God breathed. They carry Wisdom. They teach us. They teach us. So that we can come to maturity and be equipped to do God’s work.
